What is sub-floor preparation?

Subfloors that have been properly prepared and installed provide a strong basis for your flooring, assuring its usefulness and lifespan for many years.

Unfortunately, most people are unaware of the importance of a good subfloor and the time and effort required to examine and validate its integrity.

Since one carefully structured subfloor is so vital to the overall function of your new flooring, it’s necessary to understand all the many parts of subfloor preparation. It’s vital to remember that putting new floors over existing ones might cause problems with the overall aesthetic of the flooring, appliance clearance, adding extra height that can make doors swing improperly, and adding unneeded weight.

Selecting and correctly installing an appropriate subfloor ensures a lasting quality finish for any flooring product.

Why is subfloor important?

The subfloor’s quality has a direct impact on the flooring’s performance; hence a bad subfloor might lead the floor to collapse or underperform.

Uneven areas, elevated wear on high spots, unsightly surface differences, reduced shelf life, sagging, squeaking within the floor system, lowered comfort, excessive movement and shifting, separation or harm can all result from a subfloor that is not flat, dry, properly cleaned, structurally sound, or faulty in any way. These problems might worsen with time, necessitating the repair or replacement of some or all flooring. To provide you with the greatest solution, we carefully examine and consider all of the relevant criteria.

How we proceed?

Across many commercial flooring projects, we supply and lay subfloors including rapid set screeds, smoothing compounds, liquid damp proof membranes and plywood substrates.

Typically, we lay 3mm screed on concrete subfloors or 6mm plywood over existing timber substrate.
We carry out full surveys on every project, reporting on moisture levels and site conditions to determine the best subfloor solution.
